Mikey and I have this thing. It's called: let's try and see if we can do one major grocery shopping per month (and keep the inevitable runs to the market to a minimum). I know, coming from the girl who was infuriated by the tuna and dry roasted peanuts incident, it's strange that I not only condone, but actively participate in this sort of behavior now.
But I've found a new challenge in it all. I plan out two weeks of solid meals. Something always comes up, a wedding reception, an invitation to dinner...whatever, so meals get bumped to week three. But the fourth week is the week where all the creativity happens. Or non-creativity. We had quinoa for 4 out of 5 days last week. Lunch and dinner. Andwelikedit, yeswedid.
Monday was another one of those spendy grocery days. The lets-stock-up-for-the-month day. We went to Costco. Where else?
On the way home, driving with the windows down in this glorious weather, I was thinking about coupons and remembered I had forgotten one. I turned to Mikey:
P: Hey I had a coupon for Stacy's Pita Chips but I forgot it. They'll be like a buck-fifty for a big bag with it.
M: Mmm, that sounds great! I'd love to go.
P: (pause, processing his response) I don't think you understood what I said.
M: Yes I did, you've got coupons for Stacy's Pita Booth. That sounds great. When do you want to go? . . . And who's Stacy?

love those chips. I have been craving them for weeks...
If you have one of the costco coupons, it counts for all of them. They all have the same barcode on the back.
we do the same thing with only shopping once a month, or every 6 weeks...I plan about 15 meals, and we just see how far they last....it's awesome....
I'm impressed. Quinoa, no less. Necessity IS the mother of invention.
